FAQ – Frequently asked questions
Smile Design
A cost estimate depends on the patient’s individual medical condition. A specific treatment cost estimate can generally only be prepared after an examination at the office.
The estimated treatment duration and the number of aligners are calculated in advance. Each aligner moves the teeth a small amount and must be worn for about 22 hours a day for 7–20 days. At the end of treatment, the new position of the teeth should be stabilized with a retainer to prevent them from shifting again.
Aligners are braces made of very thin, clear plastic. They correct misaligned teeth quickly and discreetly. This orthodontic method is therefore particularly appealing to adults and working professionals.
How much do aligners cost in Austria? MV
The cost estimate depends on the patient’s individual medical situation. Costs in Austria are influenced by: the complexity and duration of treatment, as well as the practice’s individual pricing. A specific treatment cost estimate can generally only be provided after an examination at the practice.
You can choose any color for your veneers. However, we are limited by the color of the surrounding teeth. If they are too dark, an unattractive contrast will result between your natural teeth and the light-colored veneers. To get around this limitation, teeth whitening is often performed before the veneer procedure.
When properly planned and performed, veneers often last up to 15 years or longer.
Regular checkups are essential for maintaining the long-term health of your teeth and your new dental restoration. This allows any potential problems to be detected early, addressed promptly, and ensures that your teeth and your new restoration remain healthy.
Yes, veneers can be tried on to test their shape and color. It is particularly important to us that the veneer treatment proceeds as predictably and controlled as possible. That’s why we offer you a plastic simulation of the final veneers, which you can try on to test their aesthetics and function. This is called a mock-up.
The veneer procedure is a collaborative effort between the dentist, the patient, and the dental technician. During this process, the color, shape, and other details are determined on an individual basis for your specific situation, and the veneers are designed accordingly. The dentist lightly prepares the teeth to be treated, removing a minimal amount of enamel (0 to 0.8 mm deep). The veneers are then custom-made and bonded to the prepared teeth using a highly advanced special adhesive. Once in place, they are indistinguishable from natural teeth.
Veneers are wafer-thin ceramic shells that are bonded to the front teeth to enhance their appearance according to your preferences. Choose veneers made of composite resin or high-performance ceramic by the master of all dental technicians, Christian Koczy from Vienna, which enable visually perfect restorations. With veneers, the shape, color, luster, and alignment of your front teeth can be customized to your individual preferences.
Dental Cleaning
On Dental Cleaning Day, you can brush your teeth as usual in the evening before going to bed.
Dental care for children and adolescents between the ages of 10 and 18 is covered by Austrian health insurance providers once a year. In some cases, it may be necessary sooner. This will be determined by the dentist.
Prophylaxis is the prevention of disease. At the dentist, it refers to professional teeth cleaning.
Even with good dental cleaning at home, a deep cleaning is necessary to prevent tooth decay and periodontal disease.
A cost estimate always depends solely on the individual’s specific medical condition. A detailed treatment cost estimate can generally only be prepared after an examination at the doctor’s office.
A standard dental hygiene appointment lasts about 50 minutes.
It is recommended that you wait about 2 hours after brushing your teeth before eating, so that the fluoride varnish can take effect properly.
Pain usually does not occur during treatment. However, if it does occur in sensitive patients, there is always the option of using a topical anesthetic spray.
Dental cleanings are recommended every 6 months. These intervals may be shortened or extended depending on the patient and the situation.
During dental cleaning treatment, the tooth surfaces and gum pockets are cleaned of all soft and hard deposits, and any discoloration (e.g., from coffee, tea, or cigarettes) is removed. This is done using hand instruments and an ultrasonic device. The subsequent high-gloss polishing makes it easier for you to maintain dental cleaning at home, as bacterial plaque has a harder time adhering to the smoothed teeth.
Teeth Whitening
If you experience pain during the whitening process, it’s always a good idea to take a break for 1–2 days. It’s never necessary to stop the treatment.
A “white” diet is recommended 10–14 days afterward to prevent new color pigments from becoming embedded in the enamel too soon.
During the whitening treatment and for the following 14 days, you should at least significantly cut back on smoking and avoid consuming strongly colored beverages or foods (coffee, red wine, tea, cola, etc.).
Teeth whitening is a method used to lighten teeth and remove stains, making them appear whiter. It is usually done using a carbamide gel. This gel breaks down organic pigments (such as those from red wine, tea, coffee, or tobacco smoke) and restores the teeth’s whiteness.
No, brushing your teeth alone won’t remove stains. While dental cleaning removes surface plaque and stains, teeth whitening uses a professional bleaching agent that permanently lightens the natural color of your teeth.
Some foods and beverages (e.g., cola, tea, coffee) contain coloring pigments. These pigments build up on the teeth and penetrate the enamel. As a result, the teeth no longer appear white. Smoking, certain illnesses, and some medications can also affect tooth color. As we age, teeth naturally tend to darken.
Numerous studies in recent years have shown that professional teeth whitening performed by a dentist poses no risk to the teeth, any existing fillings, or the oral mucosa. However, temporary sensitivity to hot and cold may occur, which disappears once the treatment is complete.
The results of teeth whitening last for many years. Diet, smoking, age, and oral hygiene have a significant impact on how long the results last. A quick touch-up treatment is possible at any time, and we recommend it at our practice no sooner than 3 years after the initial treatment.
Teeth whitening is generally suitable for everyone. It should not be used only on young children, pregnant women, or women who are breastfeeding. Healthy teeth and healthy gums are prerequisites for teeth whitening.
Dental Implants
Dental implants take 2–4 months to heal, depending on the individual’s bone structure. Under certain conditions, implants can also be loaded immediately.
Dental implants made of pure titanium are the most biocompatible and rarely cause complications.
Immediate implants speed up treatment, preserve bone tissue, reduce the number of treatment steps, and should only be performed by experienced practitioners.
Three-dimensional X-rays are used to ensure accurate implant planning. This allows implants to be placed with greater precision and in a less invasive manner.
Instead of estimating distances, they can be measured precisely. The radiation exposure from DVT scans is only 1–10% of that from a conventional CT scan.
A cost estimate depends on the patient’s individual medical condition. A specific treatment cost estimate can generally only be prepared after an examination at the office.
In many cases, the implant can be placed on the very day the tooth is extracted. If the medical conditions allow, we can fit the implant with a temporary plastic crown on the same day. The final restoration with the permanent dental prosthesis is then completed once the implant has fully healed.
Dental implants are a suitable alternative to removable dentures. They are used to close gaps caused by the loss of individual teeth or to restore chewing function following the loss of molars. When used to anchor a full denture, they improve stability and chewing function.
For edentulous jaws, dental implants are the optimal—albeit most expensive—solution for fixed dentures. Six to eight implants are placed for this purpose. After the healing phase, a fixed bridge is attached to these implants.
Implants replace missing teeth. They are placed in the jawbone at the site where the tooth was previously anchored and serve as an anchor for the dental prosthesis. In order to place an implant, there must be sufficient bone mass. If this is not the case, there are several options for building up the bone and preparing it for implant placement. Caution is advised for diabetics, smokers, patients with severe osteoporosis, and patients taking bisphosphonates.
